Holistic Care In Seniors

Importance of Holistic care in seniors

Holistic care means the overall well-being of an individual including his/her physical, emotional and psychological well-being. This term is widely used in healthcare but is still uncommon in our society. Most families do not understand its importance and ask only for physical assistance for their loved ones. Very often, “holistic care” is condemned as being unspecialized, unscientific, wasteful, and time-consuming. But they fail to understand that loneliness is the origin of all issues.

At an old age, one needs a person to talk to for their psychological comfort. All children love their parents and wish to spend more time with them but sadly, due to their busy schedules, they are unable to do so.

During illness, complex psychological, social and cultural needs disturb an elderly’s balance and adversely affect their ability to carry out everyday activities. Holistic care, by addressing an elderly’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, restores this balance and enables them to deal with their condition.

During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, we could not go to our offices, visit our friends or have lunch and dinner parties. We all got frustrated sitting at home all day. Just imagine the frustration that our loved ones face, due to our failure to understand the importance of holistic living. ”All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Everyone has a right to be amongst their peers and enjoy life, irrespective of whether they are young or old. We, as aware kids, should be more responsible and build such an environment for our loved ones.

At Nema ElderCare, we focus on satisfying a resident’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. We spend a lot of time with them to understand their requirements and take detailed information about them, including even details of their preferred form of address. They might like themselves to be called by their first name or uncle/ aunty or dada/ dadi. We ensure that their choices and urges are well taken care of.

We not only prepare an individualised care plan but also activity schedules for our residents depending on their interests and hobbies. It includes fun games, tambola, cards, yoga, meditation, gardening, kitchen activities like baking, cooking together on festivals, cultural events, celebrations, movie outings, picnics etc. At Nema, we ensure that seniors have a happy and comfortable experience.
